Bulrush Open Space
A wetland plant and bird sanctuary two miles west of I-25 on Colorado 52, created as a mitigation bank and managed by the Town since 2007; trails, signs and a pavilion, open by appointment from sunrise to sunset.
Bulrush was built as a wetland mitigation bank under an Army Corps of Engineers charter and given to the Town, and under that charter it opens by appointment only, sunrise to sunset, with closures for wildlife and resource management. Inside are trails, educational signs, a pavilion (maximum sixty people) and the birds the wetland draws. Appointments are made by email with the Parks and Open Space Director, cjohnson@frederickco.gov.
